CALI ENDS THE BAD SLEEP NIGHTMARE
Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam, 13 August 2021:California Fitness & Yoga today announced a free new program it is offering to people locked-down in Vietnam to help them rest a little easier in these stressful times.
With a focus on yoga and meditation and led by the nation’s top instructors, the program is offered online and represents the company’s shift toward holistic wellness and improving the health of Vietnam around three key pillars – fitness, nutrition and mental wellbeing.
The seven-session Vietnamese-language online program will run nightly on Zoom between 8 and 9 pm, with a focus on breathing techniques, meditation and gentle yoga all designed to help attendees sleep easier, wake up more energized, find inner peace, and improve memory and concentration.
According to one of the program’s principal instructors, Ms. Thanh Tran, the better-sleep program’s focus will be on creating a daily habit of practicing relaxation techniques before bed.
“Yoga helps people to manage chronic pain, release muscle tension, improve joint flexibility, balance blood pressure and improve cardiovascular health,” she said. “This is augmented with meditation, which will aid participants in shifting their focus to their inner selves through the flow of their breath, and managing their thoughts and anxiety. A continuous practice of yoga and meditation in the long run will also help people attune their biological clock to better sleep.”
A 2019 study by Wakefield Research revealed that 37% of people in Vietnam suffered from some form of sleep disorder, as well as nationwide tendencies for poor pre-bedtime habits, including eating and drinking heavily caffeinated or high-calorie foods and beverages.
“This study was revealing poor sleep patterns and bad sleep habits even before the pandemic and its economic impacts added to the stress in the lives of people in Vietnam. Poor sleeping habits are an epidemic unto themselves, and assisting people nationwide to overcome this nightmare scenario is part of our commitment to improving the health and wellness of everyone in the country,” said FLG Vietnam Chief Executive Officer Mr. Dane Fort.
Describing sleep as the most under-appreciated aspect of mental and physical health, Raffles Medical’s Dr. Lai Zhu Neay said: “A lack of deep sleep – especially between 10 pm and 2 am – as well as the total quantity of sleep a person gets, has a direct correlation to mental health, memory, even early onset dementia, as well as damaging recovery and worsening the effects of virtually any chronic disease you can think of.”
He went on to note that children were particularly susceptible to inadequate sleep often due to video games and screen time which can potentially stunt mental growth as the mind is constantly stimulated, but went on to comment that the problem was common across all age groups.
“Sometimes I meet senior business people who claim to be performing at full capacity with less than six hours of sleep – I tell them that they are managing to perform well despite having only six hours of sleep! I recommend trying a seven hour minimum and they invariably notice improvements in mental acuity and decision making with a well rested mind.”
