Cargill inaugurates state-of-the-art Provimi Premix plant to meet growing demand from livestock and aquaculture farmers in Vietnam
The rapid development of Vietnam’s animal farming industry and sophisticated demands from customers have led Cargill to open a new Provimi Premix plant in South Vietnam with increased capacity and modern capabilities, fueling the next phase of growth for the industry. This new plant will drastically improve access to world class additives and specialty ingredients for Vietnamese livestock (swine, poultry and dairy) and aquaculture farmers, as well as the nation’s feed mills.
The facility was inaugurated today in Giang Dien commune, Trang Bom district in the southern province of Dong Nai in the presence of Ms. Melissa Bishop, Deputy Chief of Mission for the U.S. Mission in Vietnam, Mr. Vo Tan Duc, Acting Chairman of Dong Nai People’s Committee and Cargill team led by Brian Sikes, President and CEO, Cargill.
The US$28 million Giang Dien plant represents a quantum leap forward from the Provimi Bien Hoa plant with vastly improved technology and superior infrastructure, representing the best of Cargill premix facilities in Asia. Spanning 30,000 square meters, the Giang Dien factory is more than nine times the size of its 27-year-old predecessor, and its 40,000-ton annual capacity represents a 100% increase over the plant it supersedes. The significantly larger production and warehousing capacity of the new plant will add to Vietnam’s premix capabilities and self-sufficiency, besides enhancing the precision and traceability of these specialty micro-nutrient products. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the new plant has an automation rate of over 95% and this industry’s best technology brings an assurance of quality control for partners and customers.
“Last year, U.S. – Vietnam agricultural trade reached $9.8 billion. Vietnam is now the ninth largest importer of U.S. agricultural products, while the United States is the largest importer of Vietnamese agricultural products,” said Ms. Melissa Bishop, Deputy Chief of Mission for the U.S. Mission in Vietnam. “This incredible growth was possible thanks to the strong partnerships, collaboration, and commitment to long-term investment in Vietnam from companies like Cargill.”
“The government and people of Dong Nai Province appreciate Cargill’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and community engagement, particularly through the company’s support for food security, nutrition, and sustainable development as well as its Cargill Cares initiative,” said Mr. Vo Tan Duc, Acting Chairman of Dong Nai People’s Committee. “We believe that Cargill’s success, including Provimi’s, will boost the appeal of Dong Nai to other U.S. businesses and foreign investors, especially in the context of the elevated Vietnam-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for enhanced cooperation and development.”
“Cargill’s new Provimi Giang Dien facility will produce animal nutrition products ranging from low inclusion premixes to high inclusion basemix which contains high inclusion nutrition technology – and other additives and specialty ingredients under the brand Provimi to serve multiple customer segments including farmers of livestock, aquaculture and feed mills all over Vietnam,” said Mr. Duc Thang Pham, Managing Director, Cargill Animal Nutrition Thailand & Vietnam.
“Vietnam continues to be an important market for Cargill globally. This expansion is part of our long-term strategic vision for Vietnam and in line with the growth predictions for the country’s agricultural sector, and the Asia Pacific region. We remain committed to the success of our customers and progress of the nation,” said Mr. Scott Ainslie, Group Director for Cargill Animal Nutrition in South and Southeast Asia.
The plant complies with stringent Food Safety Quality and Regulatory requirements, meets international standards such as ISO 22000 and FAMI QS, which is the highest quality and safety certification applicable to specialty feed ingredients produced by plants of this nature.
“We have started serving customers from this new plant, to meet the increased demand in terms of quantity and quality of feed additives,” Thang said, acknowledging that the new Provimi facility is prepared to meet the growing demand from both domestic and export markets.
Being a sustainable partner to customers and partners, Cargill’s commitment to environmental responsibility echoes throughout the new facility. Capabilities like advanced water treatment, smart lighting and natural lighting optimization systems ensure energy efficiency and minimize the plant’s carbon footprint. The use of eco-bags throughout the plant will reduce polyethylene (PE) use compared to other methods, in alignment with Cargill’s plastic waste reduction initiatives. Cargill’s commitment to Dong Nai can be witnessed through the long-standing Cargill Cares School Building Program which has built five schools in the province over the last 26 years. This includes the local Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Primary School – the first school Cargill opened back in 1997 in the Giang Dien commune, situated just three kilometers from the new plant.
