Gone in 30 minutes – Redmi 5A sells out in under half an hour

Global technology leader Xiaomi and online partner Lazada today announced that the Redmi 5A sold out in under 30 minutes. The game-changing, VND 1.79 million Redmi 5A went on sale today at 11 am, and was gone long before lunch, with over 2000 units sold in the first five minutes alone.

Clocking a record 35,000 pre-registrations in the days since it was unveiled to a thrilled audience in Ho Chi Minh City, the device has captured the imagination of consumers in Vietnam, surprised by the fact that a Qualcomm-powered, 5 inch, 4G smartphone, featuring a 13MP rear and 5MP front camera can hit the shelves for less than the price of a plane ticket home for Tet.

The device sets a new bar for entry-level smartphones in Vietnam, with most similar devices hovering around 4 million VND, and most sub 2 million devices simply unable to match the performance of the new ‘king of entry-level smartphones’.
