Thailand international favorite for Vietnamese family trips
Thailand is the most popular destination for Vietnamese families looking to enjoy an international vacation together. Based on early 2023 search data from digital travel platform Agoda, four different Thai destinations rank in the top 10 desired international getaways for Vietnamese families, with Bangkok topping the list. Beach destinations Phuket (5) and Pattaya (9) also feature on the Vietnam wish-list, with mountain-retreat Chiang Mai rounding out the nation’s top 10.
Singapore (2), Seoul (3) and Tokyo (4) are also proving popular, with Vietnamese families keen to spread their wings in the year ahead, while staying generally within a short-haul radius for their familial explorations of the Asia Pacific.
Domestically, HCMC’s nearest beach-town Vung Tau led the way when it comes to sneaking the family off for a weekend away, with easy transport and abundant accommodation options making it an easy choice. Similarly, the cooler climes of Dalat are ever popular for people looking to offer some respite from the heat. Beach destinations Phu Quoc, Danang, Phan Thiet and Nha Trang occupy slots 3 through 6 respectively.
The popularity of beach destinations comes as no surprise, as Agoda’s Family Travel Trend Survey, which polled over 14,000 family travelers from 12 markets globally, found that spending time at the beach is the second most popular activity on family trips, behind visiting landmarks. Enjoying a fun day at an amusement park comes in third.
The top ten local and international destinations are as follows:
Domestic | International | |
1 | Vung Tau | Bangkok |
2 | Dalat | Singapore |
3 | Phu Quoc Island | Seoul |
4 | Da Nang | Tokyo |
5 | Phan Thiet | Phuket |
6 | Nha Trang | Bali |
7 | Ho Chi Minh City | Taipei |
8 | Hanoi | Kuala Lumpur |
9 | Hoi An | Pattaya |
10 | Sapa | Chiang Mai |
“Families are taking advantage of the school breaks to spend quality time on trips together. Among Vietnamese travelers, we are seeing great interest to spend that time in Thailand in particular,” said Lam Vu, Country Director Agoda Vietnam. “Planning vacations with large groups across different age groups and budgets can be a challenge. Which is why at Agoda, we have done our best to make the booking journey as seamless as possible with accommodations, flight, and activities all at the click of a button.”
When families travel together, there’s no one-size-fits-all for the type of place to stay. Some families are looking for Agoda Homes which offer kitchens or extra living space to cater for family groups, while others prefer a hotel with kids’ clubs, babysitting or family friendly adjoining rooms. Agoda’s hassle-free booking experience caters to all – helping all family travelers find the ideal hotel or homestay for their trip.
