$10 Million in Support and Scholarships Offered to Vietnamese Students in US
Ho Chi Minh City, 10 June 2016: American Education Group (AEG) today announced that it is sending a record 146 Vietnamese students to the US to take up their studies for the 2016-2017 school year. This includes 55 students who were granted financial aid and scholarships totaling US$10 million.
AEG, which has been supporting Vietnamese students and families to study overseas for nearly 20 years announced the results at a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City today, with founder and Chairman Mr. Richard Sherwood saying: “This last year has been extremely exciting for us at AEG. For nearly 20 years we have put the quality of education and the principle of finding the right schools for our students as our top priority and year-after-year we see the incredible results of that mission. We know that this year’s students are going on an incredible journey that will give them invaluable experience and knowledge for their futures and a foundation to help Vietnam change the world.”
Over its history in Vietnam, AEG has supported more than 1,500 Vietnamese students reach the Top 50 Boarding Schools and hundreds of Universities in the United States. Those students have received more than US$100 million in financial aid and scholarships including near-full scholarships to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Caltech, Stanford and Princeton just this year. Additionally, AEG is the exclusive representative of the ASSIST scholarship in Vietnam and has awarded over 50 full-fee and half-fee scholarships to top students looking to attend US Boarding Schools. A number of AEG students have also received prestigious academic awards including the Davis Scholarship, the Morehead-Cain Scholarship and the Kravis Scholars Program.
“Ultimately it is Vietnam that benefits the most from this. Our goal has always been more than just placement at elite schools, it is that our students are successful at these schools. These students will return to their home country in a few years, rich with experience and broadened horizons, and put these skills to work on the development of their homeland,” added Mr. Sherwood
The list of colleges and universities to which AEG students have been admitted to in recent years includes elite institutions such as Harvard, Yale, MIT, Princeton, Stanford and Caltech among many others. Likewise for Boarding Schools, the list includes Andover, Exeter, and Taft amongst a range of elite boarding schools.
Ms. Caitlin Worsham, Director of University Admissions at AEG, added: “We are glad to be able to help these talented students attend some of the world’s top universities. The admission process is not easy, with both technical requirements and language barriers to overcome – indeed these students have achieved so much already by just reaching this point. It’s an exciting day for them and I am exceptionally proud of them all.”
To be admitted to top American Universities and Boarding Schools, students need to complete essential requirements such as high academic performance through their high school career, but also should put their talents and interests to work in the form of extra-curricular activities, internships, portfolios and community activities. The path to the great schools is getting tougher each year, with more and more students from around the world looking to study in the United States. High test scores and marks have become the norm. What makes students stand out now is how they can be a part of the school and greater community and what they plan to do with their education in the future.
AEG’s 2015-2016 group of students will start their journey in the United States in August or September of this year.
For nearly 20 years AEG has emphasized the values, ethics and importance of education to Vietnamese students looking for the education opportunity of a lifetime. AEG’s role is supporting students and parents through the admissions and preparation process, both in terms of administration and academics, to ensure success all the way through their education career. AEG offers a range of education services to students in addition to its Boarding School and University Consulting service including STEAM English for Young Learners and Teens and Test Prep including TOEFL, SAT, SATII, IELTS and more. AEG’s successes this year and those past are the result of an enduring commitment to quality education and the belief that education has the power to shape young people who can change the world.
ABOUT AEG
American Education Group (AEG) is one of Vietnam’s oldest education providers and consultancies offering a range of English advancement, academic and preparatory courses to prepare students for international study and employment.
As not just teachers but educators, AEG’s academic team is passionate about our role in helping students succeed. We do this by being at the forefront of education theory and methodology and designing unique, fun and practical curriculums that engage different learning styles, encourage teamwork and cooperative learning, and ensure the success of every student.
Given the realities of modern education and employment, AEG’s Whiz Kids and Teen Spirit study English through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) – these are the subjects that challenge students most when they go abroad and enter international working environments. By introducing these subjects early, students can be expected to excel through each stage of their academic and professional advancement.
AEG also employs a wide range of test professionals that have developed unique and effective approaches to achieve high scores. From IELTS and TOEFL to SAT and ACT, our curriculums have been proven again and again to help students not only pass exams, but get the highest percentile scores.
For our older learners looking to advance their professional careers, AEG has developed a strategic method of study that puts students in practical life and business situations and challenges them to use their English in activities that reflect what they will truly face in their professional endeavors.
Most importantly, AEG is a learning community. You do more than just attend classes, you become part of an academic lifestyle that engages not only academic and professional pursuits, but also your interests and aspirations. AEG creates lifelong learners, passionate leaders and ethical citizens who can confidently take on the challenges of today and tomorrow.
