Intel: 50 years of innovation
Vietnam, 28 June 2023,
Established in 1968, Intel Corporation has embarked on a journey of innovation and creativity for over 50 years, achieving remarkable milestones. The year 2021 marked the 50th anniversary of the birth of the Intel 4004 processor, the first building block for modern processors. Intel’s technology has permeated all aspects of life, and its primary goal is to continue driving technological advancements to improve the lives of individuals.
Vietnam plays a crucial role in achieving this goal, as it is one of the fastest-growing economies in ASEAN, with a GDP growth rate exceeding 8% in 2022 compared to the previous year. The computer market in Vietnam is expected to recover in the second half of 2023. The digital transformation process of businesses is ongoing in sectors such as financial services, telecommunications, and manufacturing.
To stay ahead of these trends, Intel will introduce numerous new products and solutions tailored to the specific needs of Vietnam. The banking, telecommunications, manufacturing, education, and government sectors will receive prioritized attention from Intel through suitable solutions. The corporation will also collaborate closely with partners to bring programs and events to consumers. Notably, the INTEL TECH CAMP, considered the most significant IT event for consumers in Vietnam, will return this year after its successful edition in September last year, attracting over 12,000 participants.
In manufacturing, the Intel Products Vietnam (IPV) factory plays a vital role in the IDM 2.0 strategic initiative and the “5 years, 4 processes” plan announced by CEO Pat Gelsinger in 2021. With the vision of “Creating the Future for both Intel and Vietnam,” Intel has invested a total of $1.5 billion in the Vietnam factory, creating around 6,500 jobs in high technology (including approximately 2,400 Intel employees) and contributing $76.3 billion in export value from 2010 to the present. In the first quarter of 2023, Intel accounted for 50% of the total export turnover of the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park (SHTP), 15% of the country’s electronic component/electronics export turnover, and approximately 18% of the total export turnover of Ho Chi Minh City.
Throughout its operations, IPV has achieved notable milestones, including producing over 3.5 billion units of products, manufacturing the latest 13th generation Intel® Core™ processors, and being ready to participate in the production process of the Meteor Lake processors starting from late 2023. IPV also supports high-tech workforce training through the Higher Engineering Education Alliance Program (HEEAP2.0) and assists the General Department of Customs in implementing the e-Customs solution for continuous electronic customs data exchange in the supply chain. The IPV factory has received the Intel Quality Award (IQA) twice in 2016 and 2022, an internal recognition for representing and pioneering the values pursued by Intel. In 2017, the IPV factory was honored with the Third-class Labor Medal by the State President.
Regarding social responsibility, Intel and the Intel Foundation aim to positively impact communities and the world through collaborative and innovative programs aligned with their commitment to “Do Something Wonderful.” Intel has invested approximately $22 million in programs supporting education, environment, safety, and health in Vietnam, including VND 10 billion to support Vietnam’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 60% of the corporation’s employees are volunteers in CSR programs, dedicating over 200,000 hours to make a positive difference in people’s lives.
In recent years, IPV has also made efforts to minimize environmental impacts and pursue sustainable development. The Intel factory in Vietnam has saved over 40 million kWh of electricity, utilized 2.68 million kWh of green energy, reduced net carbon emissions by over 13,500 tons, treated and recycled 100% of hazardous waste, reclaimed 95% of general waste, and saved and recycled 1 million cubic meters of water.
With the achievements accomplished and positive signals for the future, Intel Corporation will continue its relentless efforts to bring innovation to everyone and push the boundaries through the power of technology.
