Ho Chi Minh City, 15 May 2017 – Canon has pulled the wraps of its global photographic contest dubbed the ‘New Cosmos of Photography’ with registrations opening around the world from April 20.  The global contest is calling for entries from Vietnam and beyond, with winners eligible to take home a prize of 1 million Japanese Yen (~200 million VND), and kickstart a career in photography.

 Aiming to unearth new photographic talent and support budding young ‘shooters’ the New Cosmos contents seeks outstanding works that draw attention to social issues through imagery.

With a particular focus on digital imagery – including videos and stills – the contest is designed to offer the broadest pool of photographers and videographers the opportunity to boost their careers with a global award under their belts.  Accepting images digitally as well as in hard copies helps to enrich the abundance of cultural issues that the contest draws attention to.  Now in its 25^th year, the New Cosmos program attracted 1,723 entrants last year, including 229 from Europe and 197 from Asia.

New Cosmos of Photography calls upon entrants to cast a creative eye over their worlds and look to ways to spark new trends in imaging.  The contest accepts all works that have not been previously published or submitted to other contests, and has no age limit on participants.

Deadline for registration is 8 Jun 2017 (JST) and deadline for receiving art works is 15 Jun 2017 (JST). All digital works should be submitted via this link https://apply.c-ncos.jp/en/entries/apply.

Judgement rules: 

On July 6-7, 2017, seven judges including photographers, cameramen, artists and global managers will select works to nominate for one Excellence Award and two Honorable Mention Awards. The winners will be announced in July and the list will be uploaded on the New Cosmos of Photography’s homepage by early August.

Winning works will be displayed at the New Cosmos of Photography exhibition in Tokyo from October 21st to November 12th. The judges will select the winner of the Grand Prize on November 10, 2017.
